Finn Fun Day 2023

Date: September 23
Time: 12-15:00
Place: Danish American Center

Tervetuloa to the 3rd annual Finn Fun Day in the Twin Cities! Finn Fun Day started as a collaboration between FACA (Finnish American Cultural Activities) and Suomi-koulu (the Finnish Language School of Minnesota). In 2019, FACA hosted an indoor event called Finnish Family Funday Sunday and over the years Suomikoulu hosted a fall kick-off gearing up for fall classes. In 2021, under the leadership of presidents Louise (FACA) and Katja (Suomikoulu, FACA) the individual events were smashed into a collective Finn Fun Day. FinnSource/FFTC joined the fun last year!

Finn Fun Day is still in pioneering stages and we are excited for the following Twin Cities Finnish and Finnish American organizations joining Finn Fun Day in hosting a game or activity to make this beloved event for all ages extra fun!

Puustelli USA, Finn Hall/Lauluaika with Kisarit, UofM Finnish Program, Salolampi, Eclectic Egalitarian, Sisu Environmental School, Finnish it, Luumu ABC, Shift2Electric, and FACC-MN.

Nähdään!

Ancient Rock Art in Finland

Ancient Rock Art in Finland–Karen Ba

Vuorivene—mysterious ancient mountain boats, painted on cliffs overlooking water passageways…signs leading us to another world? Rock paintings are numerous in Finland and were created 3,000–6,000 years ago. Who made them, for what purpose, and why have we never heard of them?

Part travelogue, part prehistoric life in Finland, and part mythology–this presentation will track a tale of Karen Ba’s personal trip to a rock art site in Finland along with background research, she has gathered.

Tervetuloa!

Date & Time: May 19, 7 p.m
Where: Danish American Center
Address: 3030 W. River Pkwy., Minneapolis, MN 55406

She will be giving a talk titled The ABCs of the Finnish Language, where she will discuss and demystify how to get started (or continue!) learning Finnish and talk a bit about the structure and history of the language as well. Lily is continues to be a wonderful addition/resource to our Finnish Community.

We hope to see you all on zoom!  Pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea or beverage of choice and enjoy!
